ORISKANY — Mildred J. Ulmer 83, of Oriskany passed away peacefully on Thursday December 27, 2012 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center surrounded by the love of her family.

She was born on January 27, 1929 in Oriskany a daughter of the late William and Theresa (Beasock) Smith. On February 1, 1947 at St. Peters Church in Oriskany she was united in marriage to Oliver Thayer a blessed union of over 25 years. Mr. Thayer died on June 2, 1972. She later was united in marriage to Paul Ulmer on December 31, 1974. Mr. Ulmer died on April 7, 2012, a union filled with much love and mutual admiration.

Mildred was a member of the Floyd Methodist Church and the Floyd Up and Lively Seniors Group.

She loved word puzzles and television game shows, but she was always at her happiest when she was surrounded by her family, especially her children and adored grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Brewer and her husband William of Mohawk, Susan Elia of New Port Richie, FL, Thomas Thayer and his wife Carol of TX, William Thayer and his wife Mary of Oriskany, Edward Thayer and his wife Lou Ann of Oriskany, Brenda Bigelow and her husband Mark of Wampsville and Ronald Thayer and his wife Melissa of Floyd. She also leaves her stepchildren, Dennis Ulmer of FL, Denise Wade of FL, and Linda Ulmer of PA; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson Richard Thayer; a stepson, Paulie Ulmer; two brothers, Everett Smith and Alfred Smith; and two sisters, Norma Ernenwein and Edith Bailey.

The family wishes to sincerely thank St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, the Pines of Utica and the Eastern Star Home for their care and compassion and also a very special thank you to the Floyd Volunteer Fire Dept. for their many acts of kindness.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Forty Main St., Whitesboro with Rev. Laurie Pauley of the Floyd Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the spring in the Oriskany Cemetery. Rome Sentinel, 12/31/2012.
