Richard was b. in about 1823 to Richard & Lucinda (Corder) Allen, who came from VA to farm in the Moxie (Moxahala) area of what is now Pleasant Twp., Perry Co., OH.

Richard's father Richard Allen Sr. was born in Maryland. Unless it's been corrected, there is currently incorrect information posted on Familysearch.org showing Richard Allen Sr. as a son of Charles & Elizabeth (Chambers) Allen. There's no proof that he was their son. It's improbable that he would have been their son because of his birth in Maryland and marriage to Lucinda Corder. The birth date of Richard Allen Sr. is currently unknown, but the 1840 Perry Co. census has him born 1771-1780.
