The son of Peter & Margaret (Zug) Brindle, in 1860 he was a farmer living with his parents in Monroe Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Carlisle October 16, 1862, and mustered into federal service at Chambersburg November 1 as a private with Co. A, 158th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"). He quickly procured a substitute and honorably discharged from the service November 20, 1862, never having left Chambersburg.
He married Sarah J. Firestone in 1876 and fathered Harvey (b. 11/18/78, d. 02/26/79).

Mechanicsburg, Pa., Dec. 31. - The death of Levi Brindle occurred at his home in Monroe township early yesterday morning at the advanced age of 91 years.
