Joseph Tackett, 22, of Hinesville, Ga., died Saturday, June 23, 2005 in Baghdad, Iraq. Born Sept. 22, 1982, in Johnson County, he was a son of Wendell and Kathy Fraley Tackett. He was in the Army branch of the military. Additional survivors in-clude his wife, Stephanie Bryan Tackett; a brother, Samuel Francis Tackett of Shelbyville; and a sister, Kathy Michelle Spencer of Whitehouse. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Sunday, July 3, at Tackett Family Cemetery, Whitehouse, with Harold Conley officiating. Preston Funeral Home, Paintsville, is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call Saturday, July 2, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Johnson County Middle School gymnasium.

When he had time to spare, he wrote letters to students at his old elementary school, who were his "pen pals."
