Bridget Purcell was the daughter of Martin Purcell and Anna Scahill. We believe she was born about 1812 close to Shrule, County Mayo, Ireland. The Catholic records for Shrule parish start about 1833. The first documentation of the family is found the baptismal records for three of the children, Catherine (1833), Bridget (1835) and Patrick (1838). James and Anna Scahill are the godparents for Patrick McTygue. We don't know if Michael McTygue died in Ireland or America.
We believe that the family came to America about 1847. The first record in American is found when Bridget placed an ad in the Boston Pilot, this newspaper was used by the Irish to locate friends and family.
