Clara E. Westerness, age 94 went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 10th, 2011 at the Missouri Slope Care Center in Bismarck with all her family with her.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 13th at Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus, ND with Pastor Morris Kirchhof officiating.

Interment will follow at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery near Columbus.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM Tuesday at Goetz Funeral Home in Washburn with a remembrance service at 7:30 PM. Visitation will continue at 12:30 PM Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus, ND.

Clara Horntvedt was born Dec 13th, 1916 to the late Lars and Jennie (Kihle) Horntvedt on the family farm in Forthun Township, near Columbus, ND. She attended Brookside School through the 8th grade. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Pleasant Prairie Lutheran Church.

On June 8th, 1937, she married Russell Marchant. She worked for several years at Bennett's Café and for Fay's Jack and Jill Store in Columbus.

On November 14, 1964, she married Tony Westerness and they lived on his farm in Fay Township, near Columbus.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 64 years and served as treasurer for several years. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus. Clara served as treasurer of Fay Township for 22 years and was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program.

She is survived by one son, Gene Marchant of Chesapeake, VA; one daughter, Kay Leidy of Wilton, ND; two sisters, Arlene (Douglas) Beck of Minot, & Muriel Cartwright of Lynden, WA, one brother, Rev. Lester (Diana) Horntvedt of Rochester, MN; three sisters-in-law Betty Horntvedt of Kennewick, WA, Jane Horntvedt and Patricia Horntvedt both of Minot; grandchildren, Ervin (Denise) and Edward (Cindy) Marchant, Jennifer Piel, Traci (Jon) Blank, Trevor (Stacey) Leidy, and Matthew (Darla) Leidy; great grandchildren, Michael, John, Hannah, Olivia, Taylor, Ella, Claire, Jacob, Madison, Samantha, and Lindsay; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband (Tony), son (Clark), her parents, four brothers (Arthur, Howard, Maynard, and Dennis) and one sister (Leona Guderjohn).
