John Phillip was born on June 24, 1915 in Altoona, PA, the 6th of ten children of Aurelio and Rose (nee Schiantella) Calandra. He had brothers Herman, Sonny and Elmer who died as a baby, and sisters Geneva, Viola, Elma, Emily (Mayme), Nora and Josephine (Tootie). He moved to Cleveland about 1916 as a baby where he grew up.
He was 20 when he married Suntine Carriere, she was 21, on Jan. 9, 1937 at Holy Redeemer Church in Cleveland. Rev. Martino Compagno officiated.
His son, John, Jr. was born in 1939 and daughter Yvonne arrived sever years in 1946.
John & Suntine were living at 700 Quilliams Rd. in Cleveland Hts. and had been married 56 years when he passed away on March 3, 1992 at St. Lukes Hospital. He also had heart problems for many years. John was 5'8" tall with brown eyes and hair and the grandfather of four.
He was a tool and die man and owned and ran a machine shop before retiring.
