Services: Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Sprouse officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Joseph Kaemmerlen, Bob Kaemmerlen, Ellis Arnold, Matthew Powell, Gregory Powell and Stephen Kaemmerlen. The family is at the home. Memorials may be made to Connie Maxwell Children's Home, PO Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648 or to New Market Baptist Church, 906 Ninety Six Highway, Greenwood, SC 29646.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m.

Obituary: George Tillman Powell, Jr., 92, of 1126 Ninety Six Highway, husband of Mildred Willingham Powell, died Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Richard M. Campbell Veteran's Nursing Home, Anderson. Born in Edgefield, he was a son of the late George T. Powell, Sr. and Permelia Ransom Powell. He was retired from Greenwood Mills, where he was construction supervisor and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a Master Craftsman. Mr. Powell joined CCC at the age of 16 and served in Roseburg, OR, then served on active duty of the US Army from 1939 to 1946 in Patton's Third Army. He was a founding member of New Market Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of the home; a daughter, Debbie Kaemmerlen and her husband, Robert, of Gaffney; a son, George T. "Tim" Powell, III and his wife, Julie, of Chapin; a sister, Margaret Powell of Greenwood; five grandchildren, Matthew H. Powell and his wife, Amie, Gregory Powell, Joseph T. Kaemmerlen and his wife, Christina, Jenny Kaemmerlen and Stephen Kaemmerlen; two great grandchildren, Lilly Powell and Isabelle Kaemmerlen. The family wishes to express its gratitude to special friends, Ellis Arnold, Ben Davis and Nathaniel Davis.
