Mildred Willingham Powell, 94, of 1126 Ninety Six Highway, widow of George Powell, Jr. died Monday, October 24, 2016 at Self Regional Healthcare.

Born in Belton, she was a daughter, of the late William Burris and Elma Martin Powell. She retired from Greenwood Mills, Matthews plant and was a founding member of New Market Baptist Church.

Our mother was beloved and admired by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Everyone loved her biscuits, macaroni and cheese, cornbread and her special dressing, all of which remain unequaled. She had a great love of flowers in all forms and passed on that appreciation to all in her family. She lived her life according to her unwavering faith in God and was an inspiration to all of us.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Louise Willingham, Lila Mae Willingham, Sarah Jane Thompson, Edith Thompson, and Martha Land and a brother, James Willingham.

Surviving are her children, Debbie Kaemmerlen (Robert) of Gaffney, and George “Tim” Powell, III (Julie) of Chapin; a sister Betty Ann Elgin of Belton; and her grandchildren, Matthew Powell (Amie) of Knoxville, TN, Gregory Powell of Irmo, Joseph Kaemmerlen (Christina) of Concord, NC, Jenny Kabool (Chris) of Rock Hill, and Stephen Kaemmerlen (Kristy) of Westminster, MD.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Sprouse officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Honorary escort will be her grandsons.

The family will receive friends at the funeral from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm.

The family is at the home.
