HEMINGWAY — Lonnie Mayo Creel, 88, husband of Alice Perry Creel, died Friday, March 24, 2006, at his residence. Born in upper Georgetown County, he was a son of the late Lonnie Otwell Creel and the late Edith Rebecca Perry Creel. He was a graduate of Union High School.

Mr. Creel was a farmer and supervisory enumerator in recruiting, training and supervising enumerators to collect high-quality statistics for the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture. He retired in 2000 after 46 years of service. He had the distinction of having the longest tenure of any NASDA employee in the United States. He received many certificates of merit and appreciation from NASDA for his work in this field. In 2001, following his retirement, he was recognized by the South Carolina Senate and House of Representatives for his commitment and dedication to his work with NASDA.

Mr. Creel was a member of Union United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. He exemplified his devotion to his church by serving as treasurer for 45 years, Pastor-Parish Relations Committee chairman, Board of Trustees Chairman, a member of the Parsonage and Cemetery Committees and a former choir member.

He was preceded in death by brothers, J. Willard Creel and Carl T. Creel; and sisters, Marie C. Campbell and Janice C. Bruce.
