Doris Marie Mattingly Fulkerson, 83, of Knottsville passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born Nov. 12, 1929, the oldest child of Marion and Lillie Mattingly. She was the loving, caring and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother of six children; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She previously worked at Bishop Soenneker Personal Care Home and later retired from Mary Carrico Memorial School, both in Knottsville. She was a lifelong member of St. William Catholic Church. Doris enjoyed cooking and baking for her extensive family and friends, working in her flower gardens and singing in her church choir. She was a member of the Women's Guild. She also was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas Earl Mattingly, J.L. Mattingly and Robert Mattingly; and her sisters, Clara Ann Aull and Sister Margaret Mary (Delphine) Mattingly, CCP. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Joseph Stanley Fulkerson; six children, Garry (Debbie) Fulkerson, David "Squeak" (Margie) Fulkerson and Ricky "Lil Squeak" (Suzanne) Fulkerson, all of Knottsville, Debbie (Roger) Bellamy of Whitesville and Mary Robertson and Dolores (Gary) Aull of Owensboro; 17 grandchildren, Jason (Tamara) Fulkerson, Clint Fulkerson, Heath (Sheridan) Fulkerson, Laura (Brad) Conner, Stefanie (Jason) Belew, Jimmy and Michael Robertson, Shawn (Amber) Fulkerson, Jonathan, Sarah and Josh Bellamy, Nick and Jordan Fulkerson and Luke, Rachel, Hannah and Sam Aull; and 17 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by three brothers, Charles "Binky" (Thelma) Mattingly and Gene "Shug" (Donna) Mattingly of Knottsville and Bill (Wilda) Mattingly and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Mattingly, both of Owensboro. Services are at 11 A.M. Saturday at St. William Catholic Church, Knottsville, with the Rev. Pat Bittel officiating. Burial is in St. William Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 P.M. Friday with prayers at 6 P.M. and after 9 A.M. Saturday at Cecil Funeral Home, Whitesville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Passionist Monastery.
