Mrs. Georgianna C. Townsend, the widow of the late Henry C. Townsend, who died at noon on Tuesday last at her late residence, 4100 Spruce Street in her 83d year, was buried yesterday at Woodlands. Rev. Stephen W. Dana, D.D., pastor of the West Walnut Street Presbyterian Church, conducted the funeral services. Mrs. Townsend was chairman of the Ladies' Aid Society of West Philadelphia and president of the Reading Room for Soldiers at the Satterlee Hospital. She was widely known for her charitable work. During the Civil War she took an active interest in the relief of the Union soldiers who came back from the front wounded or ill. She contributed largely to the funds that were raised to send supplies to the soldiers on the Southern battlefields.
