Leon Allen Dies
Leon Allen, 79, 6019 Sunset Drive, well-known Guymon businessman and rancher died in Guymon Memorial Hospital late Tuesday evening.
The son of Jesse T. And Daisy Allen, Mr. Allen was born on Oct. 1, 1895 at LaGrange, GA. He came to this area with his parents, in 1905, who homesteaded land 16 miles NW of Guymon.
He attended the Eula and Goodwell Schools and worked with his father in farming and later, at their flour mill in Guymon. He was married to Lola Rogers in 1916 and established the Allen Tire Shop at Guymon in 1919. The business grew to include shops in Garden City, Liberal, Perryton, Spearman, and Lamar, Colo. He also had farming and ranching interests in Texas and Beaver Counties.
He was married to Mary E Faris on April 6, 1940 at Guymon.
He was a member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, the Guymon Masonic Lodge No. 335, A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite Consistory of Guthrie, and the India Shrine at Oklahoma City.
Besides his wife, Mary, of the home, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Iris Helms, Cherokee, Okla, one son, Robert L. (Bob) Allen, Colorado Springs, Colo, three step-sons, Curt Faris, Tucson, Ariz, Bud Faris, Amarillo, Tex, and Kenneth P. Faris, Guymon, one sister, Mrs. H. A. (Mozelle) Salley, Liberal, Kan, 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church in Guymon, Thursday, April 24 at 3 p.m. Rev. Louie Marsh, pastor, and Rev. H.G. Butler will officiate. Burial will be in the family lot at Elmhurst Cemetery under the direction of the Henson Funeral Home of Guymon. Friends may call at the funeral home at anytime.
A Leon Allen Memorial has been established for Oklahoma Medical Research. Memorials will be accepted at the funeral home or at the Foundation in Oklahoma City.
