ABINGDON, Va. Odell Bailey Shortt, age 86, passed away on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Wellmont Hospice House. She was born in Hawkins County, Tenn., on June 13, 1926, to the late Samuel and Willie Etna Christian Bailey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Sammy Shortt; six siblings, Colvin and Elwood Bailey, Margaret Artis, Lois Britton and Ruth Hensley. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Howard "Zeb" Shortt; two sons, Louis Shortt and his wife, Gina, and Nelson Shortt and his wife, Judy, all of Abingdon; one daughter, Linda Robinson and her husband, Jim, of Castlewood, Va.; one brother, Clinton Bailey and his wife, Emily, of Abingdon; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a special friend, Ruby Roe of Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Bob McCormick and Pastor David Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until the time of the service. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Those wishing to attend the service at the cemetery are asked to meet there by 10:50 a.m. Pallbearers will be the grandsons and great-grandsons. Kenneth Wolfe will serve as the honorary pallbearer.
