Lawrence W. "L.W." Douglas, 73, was a son of Ray and Jesse Vandeventer Douglas. He married Lois Jerde on Octoober 13, 1956, in Fort Lewis, Washington.

He was preceded in death by parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Douglas enlisted in the Army in 1951 and became a career officer, serving in the infantry and as a Green Beret and paratrooper. He saw action in Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Army Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Gold Star, four Army Commendation Medals, two Purple Hearts, two Vietnamese Campaign Medals, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Medal. He also earned the Combat Infantry Badge with Star, Jungle Expert Badge and Paratrooper Wings with Star.

During his tour in Vietnam, he established a civic action program in central Illinois to aid the needy people of Buan Ho, Vietnam, and received a commendatory letter from President Johnson for his work.

He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He received his bachelor's degree from Florida State University.
