John Greenleaf Whittier Beard was the third child of Henry Clay and Lucinda(Macy)Beard. His father died at the age of 39 leaving a widow with 5 children to care for. The boys had to help out. Whittier's siblings were Leonora"Nora"Hadley, Jonathon Seward Beard, Charles Sumner Beard and Henry Fred Beard.
Children of Whittier and Eldora were Lois(Beard)Lennox -Helen(Beard) Heacox(see links below).
John Greenleaf Whittier Beard was also known as the Poet of the Abolutionist movement. Identifying Heavily with Levi Coffin and William Beard with whom I am sure he was well aquainted. Levi Coffin was considered the head of the Underground Railroad for many years and helped thousands of slaves reach freedom.
