Leonora met her future husband when she was visiting a relative in Morgan Co. In. Leonora's mother was the niece of Perry T. Macy, Thomas Hadley's stepfather.

Following their marriage, they settled in Leonora's home town of Economy, In. Thomas, her husband entered the construction business. He built many homes and farm buildings in and near the town. He prospered, and later aquired two adjacent farms, totaling 152 acres, located 2 miles west of Economy. He combined the two farms into one, and developed his land into one of the outstanding farms of the community. He built substantial farm buildings, fine carriages, established orchards of apples, peaches, pear and cherries, and raised crops of grain and livestock. Thomas was also one of the religious leaders of his community. He, together with Edgar Lock, Albert Chamness and John Carver Keever, was instrumental in reopening the West River Friends Church in 1903, which had been closed for some thirteen years.
