Geneva E. (Rushton) Sare, 91, of Carmel, passed away November 30, 2012. Geneva was born February 21, 1921, to Carl and Ruby Rushton.

She grew up in Bloomington, Indiana where she went to Bloomington High School. She married Richard C. Sare on April 16, 1938. They lived the majority of their marriage in Bloomington. They moved to the Carmel area in 1994 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Geneva retired in 1983 from Indiana University where she worked for the Bureau of Facility Studies. She was actively involved in the Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Grand Matron from 1988 to 1989. She was a member of the Indiana Chapter 223 and a longtime member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, Bloomington.

Geneva's selflessness and devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, and friends was an inspiration to all who knew her. Even in her last days she continued to express her love and concern for others.

Geneva was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Juanita Porter; her brother, Harry Rushton; her son-in-law, Robert Lane; and her great-granddaughter, Abigail Bontreger.

She is survived by her sister, Margaret Markham; and her brothers, Max and Gene Rushton. Also surviving are her daughters, Rebecca Lane and Trudy (Mike) Yates; grandchildren, Angela Mendenhall, Greg (Kim) Sylvester, Shelbie (James) Spiller, Shana (Kris) Bontreger; nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Geneva's family would like to give sincere thanks to Joan of Great Lakes Caring Hospice, and to Cheri, Jane, and Alice of Visiting Angels. There were all truly angels in our time of need.
