She was retired as a nurse recruiter from Hershey Medical Center; was a member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey, Penn State Nittany Lions Club, Notre Dame Fan Club and the Capitol Area Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame; and was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson University School of Nursing, Philadelphia.

In Sep 1976 she was robbed, shot and raped. She was left alone is the woods for 15 hours until rescued. The gunshot left her paralyzed from the waist down.
She was a nurse recruiter at Hershey Medical Center until 1985 where her deteriorating health forced her to resign. She became an advocate for victims of violent crime and for long-term health care. She testified before congressional commission on comprehensive health care in 1989.
