Lee Duane Graves, age 78, of Cincinnati, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at his home with his family by his side in Cincinnati. He was born the son of Lee Garland and Frances (Ervin) Graves on June 30, 1934, in Centerville, Iowa. He received his education in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

On June 30, 1934, Lee entered the United States Navy and served until his honorable discharge on June 22, 1956. On April 30, 1954. He was united in marriage to Joan Dwight in Centerville, Iowa. They lived for a time in Lake Charles, Louisiana Where Lee was in Construction and was a Police Motorcycle Patrolman. In 1969, they moved back to Appanoose County and Lee worked in heavy Construction, was a Fireman for the city of Cincinnati, Iowa for over 10 years and at one time was the Fire Chief. He also drove a school bus for Centerville and later was a truck driver. He was diagnosed with Cancer in 1989 and became a 23-year survivor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepfather, George Tock; and a sister, Katherine Starr.

Lee is survived by: his wife, Joan Graves of Cincinnati, Iowa; son, Danny Wayne and his wife Susan Graves of Cincinnati, Iowa; daughters, Gayla Sue Graves of Cincinnati, Iowa and Cathy Lee Phillips and her husband, Richard of Cincinnati, Iowa; Six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, December 1, 2012, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati, Iowa with Rev. Steve Larson officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 am until 1:30 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 12 pm until 1:30. Memorials can be made in his name.
