She was only seven when her father, Isaac House, a Civil War Union Army soldier, died from disease while returning home after being discharged. Her widowed mother married Samuel Naracong, also a Civil War veteran, and they lived on Marrowback Road in Springwater.
Sarah married Samuel John Wheaton on March 25, 1875. They had seven children.
