Funeral services for Walter Fuchtman, 78, Creighton were held January 16 at St. Ludger Catholic Church in Creighton with Rev. Jerome Spenner officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Military honors were given by VFW Post 1151 of Creighton.

He died January 13 at Lundberg Memorial Hospital in Creighton.

Walter Fuchtman, the son of Joseph and Clara (Schula) Fuchtman was born September 15, 1917 at Creighton. He graduated from St. Ludger High School in 1935 and served in the U.S. Army for three and one half years with the 5th Armored Division during WWII.

He married Faye Thomas of Plainview on February 26, 1946. They farmed south of Creighton until moving to town in 1986.

He was a member of St. Ludger Parish, a life member of VFW #1151 of Creighton and was president of Midwest 5th Armored Division reunions.

Survivors include his wife, daughters and spouses, Lynn and Tom Riedmiller of Randolph, Rita and Randy Kernick of Norfolk, Celeste and Steve Elwood of Yankton, SD; son and spouse, Dale and Ardyce Fuchtman of Creighton; eight grandchildren; brothers, Ray, Joe and Willard of Creighton and Ed of Hartington; sisters; Sr. Frances and Sr. Kathleen of Wisconsin, Marge Focht of Idaho, Edna Burns and Florence Hasenpflug of Creighton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and an infant son.
