JONESVILLE, Va. - Lucille Benfield, 71, died Sunday (Feb. 1, 1998) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Born in the Wallens Creek community of Lee County, Va., she was a resident of Lee County most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Plain View Baptist Church in the Millers Chapel community.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Scottie Benfield; and her parents, Harvey and Mattie Collins.

Surviving are three sons, James and Merle Wiles and Jerry Benfield, all of Jonesville, Va.; four daughters, Mary Sweeney and husband Danny, Jonesville, Va., Linda Schaeffer, Freda Benfield and Sue Hinkle, all of Jonesville, Va.; seven grandchildren, Arthur Cowden Jr., James Schaeffer, Melissa Devault, Fred Benfield, Susan Rasnic, and Zack and Christie Wiles; five great-grandchildren, Jordan and Taylor Rasnic, and Allie, Eden and Alisha Benfield; a brother, James H. Collins and wife Maggie, Ellicott City, Md.; two sisters, Mary Edens and husband Alfred, Gate City, Va., and Betty Shockley, Jonesville, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Province Funeral Home, Jonesville, Va.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. J.D. Owens officiating.
Burial will be in Woodard Cemetery, Jonesville, Va.

Pallbearers will be Merle and James Wiles, Jerry and Fred Benfield, Danny Sweeney, Wes Rasnic, James Schaeffer and Arthur Cowden Jr.
