Former clerk-treasurer Dessie Rae Boyd dies
Dessie Rae Boyd, 71, 32 W. High St., Portland, died early today at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, following a brief illness.
She served as clerk-treasurer of Portland from 1976-1980.
Mrs. Boyd worked for the former Fred Miller Feed Co. for more than 40 years. After her term as clerk-treasurer, she was employed at Portland Electric.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and the America Legion Auxiliary. She was current secretary-treasurer of the Jay County Democratic party.
Born Sept. 2, 1918, in Jay County, she was the daughter of Nancy S. (Petry) McKinley. She was married Oct. 12, 1940, to Cecil R. Boyd.
Surviving besides her husband are one son, Roger Lee Boyd, Portland; four sisters, Mrs. Russell (Ethel) Frakes, and Mrs. Mary Jellison, both of Portland, and Mrs. Ruby Huey, Virginia Beach, Va.; six grandchildren; and three great-granchildren.
Services are set for 1 p.m. Monday in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home with Pastor Chris McPherson and Pastor John Bellante officiating. Burial will be in the Salamonia Cemetery.
