Brodbeck Body Due Wednesday
FROSTBURG - Word has been received from the War Department by Mr. and Mrs. John Brodbeck, Wright's Crossing, that the body of their son, Pfc. John B. Brodbeck, who was killed in action September 23, 1944, in Sicily, will arrive in Cumberland Wednesday and be brought to the Hafer Funeral Home here.
Services will be held Friday at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Lewis B. Browne, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, Broadway, officiating.
Military honors will be accorded by Farrady Post No. 24, American Legion, and John R. Fairgreive Post No. 2462, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Braddock Chapter No. 26, Disabled American Veterans.
Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
He was born in Frostburg and attended Beall High School. He was employed at the Celanese plant and enlisted in the Army in December 1942. He received his basic training at Camp Wheeler, Ga., and was sent to North Africa.
Pfc. Brodbeck fought in North Africa, and Sicily where he was killed. He served with the 41st Armored Infantry of the Second Armored "Hell On Wheels" Division.
Pfc. Brodbeck was a member of Frostburg Chapter, Loyal Order of Moose, and St. John's Episcopal Church.
Besides his parents he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Emmett Cotter, Mrs. Russell Morgan and Miss Anna Brodbeck, and two brothers, Herbert and Morgan Brodbeck, all of Frostburg.
Note: The 2nd Armored Division was in Germany at the time of his death, not Sicily.
