Lyman married Martha Brelje on 14 Jan 1915 in Walsh, Illinois. They were the parents of 4 children.
In 1916, the family moved to Granite City, Illinois in Madison County, and then later moved to Roxana, Illinois in 1933.
Lyman worked for the Shell Oil refinery in Roxana. He worked there for 21 years and was a laborer and operating engineer when he retired in 1949. He was a member of the labor and operating engineers locals.
After he retired from Shell, Lyman became a custodian at the Wanda School in Madison County.
He was a member of the South Roxana Dad's Club.
On the afternoon of 06 Aug 1951, Lyman was at work by himself at the Wanda School. He collapsed and became unconscious for a time. When he came to, he called for help. Neighbors heard him and took him to his home in South Roxana.
Later that evening, Lyman suffered a second attack. His family tried to find a doctor to come to the home to attend to him, but were unsuccessful. They then called for an ambulance. He died while waiting for it to arrive. At the time of his death, he was 65 years, 7 months and 28 days old.

Lyman was survived by his wife, Martha; 1 son, Lyman R. McNabney of South Roxana; 4 daughters, Ruth Walls, Alice McNabney and Doris McNabney, all of South Roxana, and Edna Laux of Chicago; 6 grandchildren; 1 brother, Logan McNabney of Sparta, Illinois; and 1 sister, Nellie Van Horn of Lewistown, Montana.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother.
Visitation was held on 07 Aug 1951 at Streeper Funeral Home in Wood River, Illinois. Funeral services were conducted there at 2 p.m. on the afternoon of 09 Aug 1951.
