She graduated from Laconia High School in 1950 and from Laconia Business College with a degree in general business. It was there she met the love of her life, Kenneth Vittum, and they were married Oct. 3, 1952, in Laconia, N.H. In 1955, they moved to Ellsworth, where they remained for the rest of their lives. For many years during the 1960s and 1970s, she owned and operated a nursery school out of her home. In December 1978, she, her husband and daughter purchased Hancock Grocery, Hancock, and operated the business until Jan. 1, 1987, when she and her husband retired.
She is survived by her son, Steven of Chicago; daughter, Barbara of Bucksport; "adopted son," Brent Lawyer of Chicago; sisters-in-law, June Grochmal of Ormand Beach, Fla., and Nancy Aldrich of Laconia, N.H.; special nieces, Beth Aldrich of Brunswick and Janice Tabor of Saco; many other loving nieces, nephews and family friends; and special friends, Evelyn Vistica, and Jim and Deb Sitterly of Ellsworth. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth, in 2011; parents; and brothers, Lewis A. and Richard E. Aldrich. The family extends personal thanks to her caregivers, Kate, Katie and Angie; and to Hancock County Hospice for their kindness and service.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Vittum Hill Cemetery, Sandwich, N.H. (Bangor Daily News 11/9/2012)
