One of Georgetown's oldest residents, Mrs John McColl died in Guelph General Hospital on Thursday. She was in her 91st year.
She was the former Margaret Jane Thornton, a daughter of the late Edwin Thornton and Isabella McKinnon, and was born on August 20th, 1860, near Ashgrove where her father farmed at lot 5, concession 8.
In 1907 she married John Scott McColl and they resided at lot 12, concession 6 until the fall of 1918 when they purchased a house on Emery Street and moved to Georgetown. Her husband predeceased her in 1930.
Mrs. McColl was a member of St. John's United Church and a life member of the Women's Missionary Society of the church. She was the last surviving member of a family of seven.
Rev. John M. Smith conducted the funeral service on Saturday at the McClure Funeral Home, with interment being made in Greenwood Cemetery, Georgetown. Pallbearers were Jack Standish, Joe Standish, Alex Hume, Andrew Ritchie, George Martin and J.D. Godfrey.
