Son of Fred and Barbara (Flockenzier) Birmelin. Married to Lillian August Bell.

GEORGE BIRMELIN, 71, of 918 Belmont Avenue, died Sunday following an extended illness. He was born August 24, 1888, in Mansfield where he spent his entire life. He had been a foreman in the machine shop at Empire-Reeves Steel Corporation for 37 years, retiring in March 1958. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Augusta Bell Birmelin; four sons, Russell, Robert, Edward and Paul; two daughters, Mrs. Edward Corey and Mrs. Delmar Heichel; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles, and two sisters, Mrs. Fred Eichler and Mrs. Elizabeth Schutera, all of Mansfield. The body is at the Wappner Funeral Home where services will be conducted Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. by his pastor, the Rev. Andrew Rolik. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home starting this evening. (Mansfield News Journal, Monday, January 11, 1960)
