Mrs. Birmelin was born in Elmstein Neustadt Bayern (Bavaria), Germany on May 14, 1867, and was the daughter of George Adam Flockerzi and Anna Elisabetha Ebert of Mansfield, Ohio, formerly of Elmstein Neustadt Bayern (Bavaria), Germany.
Mrs. Birmelin came to Mansfield when she was six years old, traveling across the ocean with an aunt and her aunt’s future husband (Barbara Ebert and Conrad Roth respectively), her mother, Elizabeth Flockerzi (née Ebert), an older brother (Conrad Flockerzi), an older sister (Katharina Flockerzi), and a baby sister of nine months. Her father having settled in Mansfield, Ohio, with other Flockerzi family members.
Preceding her in death is a brother, Conrad Flockerzi of Mansfield; a sister, Katharina Frank of Mansfield; a brother, Elias Flockerzi (passing in Germany); Franz Flockerzi (passing in Germany); George Flockerzi of Mansfield; Franz “Fritz” Flockerzi (passing in Germany); Helena Frank of Mansfield; Elizabeth Flockerzi of Mansfield; and Anna Elisabeth Flockerzi of Mansfield, her parents, George Adam, her mother Anna Elisabeth Ebert; her husband, Fred Birmelin; two sons, Frederick George "Dutch" and Conrad Birmelin of Mansfield.
Surviving are three sons, George, Charles, and William Birmelin; two daughters, Mrs. Fred Eichler and Mrs. Shuttera, all of Mansfield; 18 grandchildred and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Wappner funderal home, in charge of Rev. John C. Melchert. Burial in the Mansfield cemetery.
