Gabriel was born in the Pendleton District of SC 1799-1800. His 1st marriage was to Elizabeth Watson, d/o Thomas Watson and Elizabeth Coats. By 1850, Gabriel and his family and 2nd wife, Martha, were in Rapides Parish, LA ., by 1860 in Winn Parish [now Grant] . I am of the belief that Gabriel died sometime near 1865. Last record I found, was the Civil War Tax of 1865, assessed in 1864, to Gabriel "Barnes" $1.11-living on taxable property in Winn Parish. He was living SE of Verda on his land, purchased in 1858. I have visited that area and I did not find any marked graves for Gabriel or Martha. I visited the Verda Cemetery east of New Verda near Dartigo Creek, which bordered his land. There were field stones indicating unmarked graves there. I am placing his memorial in the Verda Cemetery in one of the unmarked grave sites. Gabriel Barron and Elizabeth Watson had 4 children, based upon census records and family bible: Daughter[maybe Arial] b. abt. 1819; John Clayton b.1823; Thomas W. b. 1825; and James, b. abt. 1827. Gabriel married "Martha" maiden name unk. by 1831. They had 10 children: unk female 1833; Virgil Aaron 1835, Sarah Virginia 1837, Llewellyn Gilliland 1838, Martin Van Buren 1841, Martha 1846, Gabriel 1849, George 1851, Jerome G. 1852, and Cader Barron 1858. It is possible that the 2nd wife, Martha, was also buried in the Verda Cemetery. No records found for Gabriel or Martha after 1865.
