- Gladys Parvin McAninch Childress, 70, passed away Monday morning (Dec. 17, 2001) at her home.
She was a native of Hawkins County and a graduate of Church Hill High School. She was employed at TEC for 34 years, retiring in 1986.

Mrs. Childress was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, R.C. McAninch; her parents, Henry and Frances Parvin; and a sister, Verna Smith.

Surviving are her husband, Ralph Childress; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Stanley (Karen) McMurray, Mrs. Jim (Donna) Harlan, both of Johnson City, and Mrs. Bob (Alice) Fitzpatrick, Irvine, Calif.; three stepgrandsons; three stepgranddaughters; two stepgreat-grandsons; sisters, Irene Thomas, Mosheim, Viola Day, British Columbia, Canada, Mabel Evans, Rogersville, Mrs. Claude (Virgie) Dykes, Rogersville, and Mrs. Bill (Mildred) Claiborne, Hixson, Tenn.; brothers, Glen Parvin, Kingsport, Henry Parvin, Rogersville, Harlan Parvin, Church Hill, David Parvin, Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Roland Brown and the Rev. Victor Wallace officiating.

The family will meet for the graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Denny Smith, Ivan Smith, James Smith, Harlan Parvin Jr., Richard Parvin, Gary Jones, Riley Jones and Tommy Parvin
