ELLIS DOW BLUE
Ellis Dow Blue, well known Lucas county citizen, died at his home east of Derby on Sunday, Feb. 17, 1935, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 17 days, after an illness of but a few days with paralysis.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. W. J. Hamilton, were held at the Derby Methodist church on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, and burial was made in the Derby cemetery.
Ellis Dow Blue was born in Monroe county, Iowa, of Feb. 24, 1857. When a young man he came to Lucas county where he has since resided.
On Nov. 25, 1885, he was united in marriage to Martha Jane Eikenberry, and for nearly two score years they journeyed life's pathway together. To them eight children were born, five daughters and three sons, the eldest daughter dying in infancy.
The children living are Ada Smith, of Chariton; Ben Blue, of Billings, Mont.; Edward Blue, of Woodland, Calif.; Odessa Blue, of Watertown, South Dakota; Mrs. Floyd Burley, William Blue and Margaret Blue, of Derby. There are also eighteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mrs. Blue preceded him in death on April 3, 1923. He was later married to Mrs. Martha Pasco, who died April 22, 1933.
Mr. Blue was a kind and loving father, thinking always of his home and family. Respected by those who knew him, he will be greatly missed in the community.
