OBITUARY
THE CHARITON LEADER
Chariton, Iowa
Tuesday, April 10, 1923
MRS. DOW BLUE
Martha Jane Blue was born in Monroe county, Iowa, April 1, 1869, and died at St. Joseph's hospital at Ottumwa, Iowa, April 3, 1923, at the age of 54 years and 3 days.
She came with her parents to Lucas county in 1875 when but a child, where she has since lived.
On November 25, 1885, she was united in marriage to E. D. Blue and for nearly two score years they journeyed life's path together. To them eight children were born, three sons and five daughters, the first born dying in infancy.
The children are, Mrs. Lorrie Smith of Chariton, Benjamin F. of Reed Point, Mont., Mrs. Ira Strain of Watertown, S. Dak., Margaret, Mrs. Floyd Burley, William R. and Edward J., all of Derby, Iowa.
When about 15 years old she publicly confessed her faith in Christ and her life is the best testimony of her convictions and ideals as she lived it among her friends and associates.
Mrs. Blue gave herself without reserve to the making of a home, esteeming it her high duty and privilege as well in discharging the responsibilities of the home life for the comfort and welfare of her family. All that was lovely and beautiful in her life was given to her children. She was a faithful wife and a devoted mother, and her sudden passing causes unmeasured grief to the companion and children.
She lived in this community so many years and was so well and favorably known that her sudden departure is a personal loss to her large circle of friends.
Besides her immediate family she leaves to mourn her demise three brothers, one sister, eleven grandchildren and a host of friends. All the children were present for the funeral except Benjamin, who could not come on account of illness.
Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at the Derby Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Larrick, and interment was made in the Derby cemetery.
