Arminda "Minnie" Greathouse was born on May 21, 1876 in Independence Township, Washington County, Ohio. She was the 8th of 15 children born to McDonald Greathouse, a farmer, and Samilda Wilcox, a homemaker. She had a total of 14 sibilngs, 7 brothers and 7 sisters.

She grew up on a farm and received a basic education. She was able to read and write, like the rest of her family.

On November 19, 1893 in Washington County, she married John Hayes, son of Isaac and Elizabeth Anna (Weaver) Hayes. She was 17 and he was 22 at the time of their marriage. Together John and Arminda had 9 children, all of which lived to adulthood.

Rosanna (1894-1960), Mack Donald (1896-1973). Corah Ethel 1899-1977), George S. (1900-1991). Edith B. (1902-1979), Mary Garnett (1908-1982), Clarence E. (1910-1987), Ruth Geneva (1915-1982) and Wretha M. (1919-2008).

On January 24, 1961 at 3:15 PM she died at her residence in Wingett Run, Washington County, Ohio. She was buried a short time after in Lawrence Cemetery, near her father and mother. At the time of her death she was survied by her husband, brother Peter, 3 sons, 5 (of 6) daughters, 21 grandchildren and 33 great-granchildren.
