He married Essie Franklin in 1928 in Overton County, Tennessee. She died in 1931.
He married Doris Conrad in November of 1939. They had two daughters, Karen and Pamela. After serving in the navy during WW2 he owned and operated several businesses. He was a shoe repairman by trade and also owned a Western Auto Store for a time. He seldom took a day off work but was able to enjoy going fishing many times. His two grandchildren brought him great joy. He died in 1989 in Evansville, Indiana.
