Father of James Allen, Shirley Jean (Mrs. Henry Fredericksen, Jr.), Joyce Marie (Mrs. Stanley), Robert Dean, and William "Billy Lee"
Andrew, youngest son of Neils and Kristena Petersen Nelson, was born January 20, 1906 at the family home near Elkhorn, Iowa. When he was two years of age, his father passed away and the family then moved to a farm north of Anita, Iowa. After attending schools in Audubon and Cass Counties. he went to work on farms in the neighborhood. When he was 17 years of age. he followed the harvest fields in the Dakotas and on to the Red River territory at potato harvest time. When the harvest was over, he came home for the winter to trap and hunt. He was a true lover of the outdoors. On December 11, 1929 he was married to Alveda Kohl and five children were born to this union. As a farmer working long hard hours, his rest is well earned. Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, James Allen and a granddaughter, Krystena Nelson.
