Shirley J. Fredricksen, 82, of Linden passed away at her home on Sunday, February 16, 2014. Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Wednesday, February 19th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 20th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Burial will be at the Dexter Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Shirley Fredricksen Memorial Fund, in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. Shirley was born February 19, 1931 at her grandparent's home at Fontanelle to Andrew and Alveda (Kohl) Nelson. She began school at a country school at Coon Rapids. The family moved south of Dexter where she attended rural school in Adair County. She attended high school at Dexter Public School. She worked as the school secretary for a short time. She worked at Mercy Hospital as a nurse's aid before going to Des Moines Area Community College and graduating as a licensed practical nurse. She was united in marriage to Harry J. Fredrickson on June 18, 1965. They brought their present home south of Linden in 1967. She loved her home and family very much. She loved to sew, cook and doing crafts. During the 1990's she and her husband worked at the Linden Elevator. In 2005, she and her husband along with family members built their log home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; baby brother, Jimmy; brother, Bob; and sister, Joyce.

She leaves behind her husband: Harry, sons: Rick Carter of Guthrie Center, Dave Carter of Dexter, Danny Carter of Dexter, Jerry Carter of Dexter; brother: Billy; grandchildren: Jeff (Yvette), Ginnie (Joel), Shannon (Justin), Dawn (Zack), Justin (Brandie), Jessie, Mandy, Lacy (Allen) and Cody; 26 Great-Grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends that will miss her dearly.
