Caroline was the oldest child of John and Nanny, born on March 19, 1832 in Compstal Bridge, Cheshire, England. Christened on April 15, 1832 at Chadkirk, Cheshire, England.

Caroline along with her sister Elizabeth, and brothers George, James and Daniel were all born in England. In 1841, John, Nanny, and the children left Liverpool England for the United States, arriving in New York on October 9, 1841 on the ship Roscius, Caroline was 9 years old.

John and Nanny settled their family in Paterson, New Jersey where Caroline grew up. Caroline's sisters Amelia and Sarah, and brothers Joseph and William were born there in Paterson. Caroline's father John was listed as a machinist, grocer and was a justice of the peace in Paterson, New Jersey, according census and directory information on Ancestry.

On December 23, 1852 she married Henry C. Christie in Paterson, New Jersey. Henry and Caroline had 5 children. Jacob born in 1854, John born in 1856, James born in 1858, Joseph born in 1858 and Lillian born in 1861.

Caroline's beloved Henry passed away on January 8,1909 and Caroline about 9 months later on October 20, 1909. She was buried next to her husband on October 25, 1909
