Daniel Burgess Preston born in Chadkirk, Cheshire, England. The fourth oldest in a family of 9.
Arrived in New York on October 9, 1841 with his mother, father and 2 sisters and 2 brothers on the ship Roscius. He served in the Civil War with 3 of his brothers. He married Jennie Lawcells on March 16, 1862 in Paterson New Jersey. They had one known child Daniel born in Jan of 1864 in Paterson, New Jersey. Moved to Kings County New York and contact was lost with his family.

Note: Marriage record to Jenny Laucells was recorded in Paterson, Passaic county March 15, 1862. Record Bk. AC : Pg. 182

In Daniel and Jennie's later years they lived with Jennie's niece and nephew-in-law Matilda and Benjamin Wallace. After Daniel died, Jennie continued to live with them until her death. In doing family research I have to think my great grand uncle Daniel was a pretty special person because Benjamin and Matilda named their only son Burgess Preston Wallace in honor of Daniel's middle and last names. The Burgess coming from Daniel's grandmother's maiden name.

Daniel died of cancer on November 17, 1912 at his home at 919 Lafayette Ave, Brooklyn, N.Y. He was buried on November 20, 1912. He was buried in the Bethel Slope section of Evergreen cemetery grave number 11361.

Daniel was my great-grandfather's older brother

Four of John and Nanny's sons enlisted in the Civil War on September 2, 1862. Daniel, George, James and William all serving in the infantry in Company C of the New Jersey 25th Infantry Regiment. Both John and Nanny had to be proud, but worried having four of their children enlist together, and to be together in the same regiment at first. Although taking some comfort that their boys were able to be there for one another, it had to be hard watching them march off to war. For all those families that experience that, may God bless and keep them all. It takes special men and women and special families left at home.
