During World War II, she was awarded the George Medal for bravery for rescuing a baby from a bombed house in London. She founded the Burnham Market Festival, in Norfolk, in 1974 and directed it for the next 18 years. She was the author of "A Spencer Childhood", published in 1994. Lady Margaret Douglas-Home, was also a close friend of Queen Mother Elizabeth.
