Dean B. Johnston, 84, of Williams St., Clearfield, PA died Friday, July 20, 2007 in Philipsburg.
Born February 7, 1923 in Curwensville, he was the son of Reid and Ruth (McKeehan) Johnston Sipes.
He had retired from the former Pennsylvania Electric Company after 31 years of service. After that he had worked for the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. and as a tip-staff at the courthouse for Judge John K. Reilly, Jr. and Judge Frederick Ammerman
He was a member of West Side United Methodist Church, a member of Clearfield Lodge #314 F.&A.M., the Williamsport Consistory, the Altoona Jaffa Shrine and the Mid Atlantic Shrine Band Association, the Clearfield Shrine Club and the Clearfield Shrine Club Oriental Band. He was also a member of B.P.O.Elks Lodge #540, F. Michael Sicks Post #1785 Veterans of Foreign Wars and John Lewis Shade Post #6 American Legion. He was a WW II US Army Veteran having served with the 195th Field Artillery 7th Corps.
He is survived by his daughter Mary Ann Franson and her husband Charles III and a son Larry K. Johnston and his wife Hollie all of Clearfield, three grandchildren Charlie Franson, Janel Justice and Andrew Franson, two step grandchildren Ashley and Meghan Gurbal and his companion Mary Jo Mandel of Philipsburg.
He was the last member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lois C. (Casher) Johnston on October 17, 1998 and a brother Charles Johnston.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at 3:00 P.M. at The Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., Clearfield with Rev. Rodger J. Gorton officiating. Interment will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. and on Wednesday from 2:00 P.M. until the hour of services.
The family suggests that contributions be made to the American Heart Associatiom, 501 Howard Ave., Building D, Suite 101, Altoona, PA 16601.
