Lewistown, IL - Ernest Alan Nebergall, 72, of 511 W. Euclid passed away at 6:20 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2011, at Sunset Manor in Canton.
He was born April 8, 1938, in Canton, the son of Ernest W. and Audrey (Deakin) Nebergall. He married JoAnn Lingenfelter on June 4, 1960, in Bryant. She died Dec. 30, 1984. He later married Mary Joyce Spratt Sykes on July 16, 1994, in Canton. She survives.
Also surviving are four children, Ernest Lee Nebergall of Lewistown, Sheryll A. (David) Wilcoxen of Fiatt, Terry A. Nebergall of Lewistown and Sara Marie Nebergall of Lewistown; five stepchildren, Cathy (Chuck) Martindale of Lewistown, Jackie (Eric) Schenck of Canton, Kay Sykes of Tremont, Jeffery Sykes of Blue Springs, Mo., and Gregory (Donna) Sykes of Walden, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alice A. Phillips of Flora.
He was preceded by his parents and one infant sister, Leigh Ann Nebergall.
Alan attended Illinois Wesleyan University. He was a local banker and the owner of Nebergall Auto Sales in Lewistown.
He was a past member of Lewistown Optimist Club and was a former Boy Scout leader. He was a sponsor of several Lewistown Park District ball teams and served on the Lewistown zoning board.
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, stock car races, golfing, and sharing a good joke.
Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery.
