Chris was born to Alvin and Ina Ophelia Wright Mahana on 28 July 1946 in Vidor, Texas. His siblings include: Danny, Lee Roy, Ned, Glen, Melvin, Alvin Ray, M.D., (twins) Carol and Karen and Clint.

Chris graduated from Vidor High School in 1966 and entered the service later that year. He was stationed at Ft. Polk, La. before being sent overseas in September, 1966. He served as a rifleman in Company D, 2nd Battalion of the division's 5th Cavalry in An Kne. Chris was killed in action in Vietnam on 19 February 1967.

Following services at the Williamson Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, there was a military graveside rite conducted by a detail from Ft. Polk, La. Chris was laid to rest at Williamson Cemetery, Vidor, Texas. N1389 military marker
