He was born April 8, 1921, in Thief River Falls, Minn., the son of Glenn and Ella (Kelly) Richardson.
John graduated from the University of Minnesota.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in France and Germany, and later, in the Army Reserve, retiring as Captain in 1969.
On Oct. 1, 1948, he married Celestine "Sally" Berglund and they moved to Green Bay in 1950.
John had been employed as a claims adjustor for General Motors and Wausau Insurance before retiring in 1976. He was an avid duck hunter and golfer. John was a member of the American Legion Sullivan Wallen Post #11, the Retired Officers Association, and was a former member of the Elks Club. More than anything, he enjoyed family and friends and will be remembered by those who knew him as a "nice man."
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Kelly and Vicki, Waukesha; Scott, Green Bay; Stephen and Karen, Eden Prairie, Minn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jeff Schadrie, De Pere; four grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Tessa and Jenna; one sister-in-law, Irene Berglund, La Crosse; one nephew, Bruce (Kaye) Richardson, Minneapolis, Minn.; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sally; his parents; one brother, Donald Richardson; and one brother-in-law, Robert Berglund.
Friends may call at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2771 Oakwood Dr., from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. John VanDeuren officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.
