Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Valley Springs Lutheran church, Rev. T. A. Johnson officiating. Pallbearers were six sons of the deceased - Louis, Ben, Nead, Peder, George, and Ruben Phillips.
Ingeborg Olina Sjurson was born June 27th, 1866, in Winneshiek county, IA. Since her marriage to Mr. Peder L. Phillips at Bruce, MN, on February 24th 1885, she had been a resident of Beaver Creek township. Mr. and Mrs. Phillips were pioneer residents of the farming territory near the state line, just east of Valley Springs, SD. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband and by a daughter, Florence.
Children surviving are Louis Phillips, Iva Nelson, and Ferne Witt of Sioux Falls, Nead Phillips of Garretson, SD, Peder Phillips and George Phillips of Valley Springs, and Hilda Phillips, Ben Phillips, and Ruben Phillips of Beaver Creek. There are also three grandchildren, Audrey Joyce Witt, Vernus Phillips, and Loraine Phillips.
Also among the surviving relatives are two brothers, P. O. Nelson of Pine City, MN, and H. A. Nelson, of Sioux Falls; Mrs. Nellie Shafer, of Valley Springs, and Mrs. C. K. Johnson, of Hardwick, MN.
All the noble and inspiring traits commonly attributed to pioneer women were possessed by Mrs. Phillips. Throughout her long and useful life she very capably filled the role of a mother, not only to her children and other immediate relatives, but to all others who were so fortunate as to be numbered among her many friends and acquaintances.
