Ruben M. Phillips died Sunday, January 24, 1982 at the Luverne Hospital. He was born June 2, 1906 to Peder and Lena Phillips at the family homestead in rural Valley Springs, SD. He attended rural school (Sunnyside School) near Valley Springs. At age 13 he moved to rural Beaver Creek.

Ruben purchased a farm near Garretson, SD, in 1942 which operated until retirement in 1972 when he moved to Luverne. He was a member of Palisades Lutheran Church of Garretson.

He played the banjo, xylophone and drums in several bands in the Beaver Creek community, and at one time he had his own band called "Ruben's Dancipators".

Survivors include two brothers: Peder of Valley Springs & George of Hartford, SD; one sister: Mrs. Ferne Witt of Luverne; many nieces and nephews. Ruben was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, & three brothers.

Engebretson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
