Hilda Phillips died in the Luverne Hospital, Friday, April 9, 1971 after a lengthy illness.
Hilda Amanda Phillips was born June 19, 1896 to Mr. and Mrs. Peder Phillips on the family homestead south of Valley Springs, SD.
She was baptized and confirmed in the former Federated Lutheran Church in Hills, MN. For many years she lived on a farm with her brother, Ruben, before entering the Tuff Memorial Home at Hills nearly six years before her death.
Hilda was a talented pianist, cook and created amazing embroidery. She toured the area with her brother's band, "Ruben Phillips and His Dancipators". Hilda toiled long and hard on the farm. She could outwork most men at picking corn, often in freezing cold.
Hilda is survived by brothers Nead and Ruben of Garretson, Peder of Valley Springs, George of Gustine, CA, and one sister, Ferne (Fred) Witt of Sioux Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Louie and Ben; and sisters Florence Phillips and Iva (Herman) Nelson.
