MITCHELL HELVIE
The death of Mr. Mitchell Helvie was but slightly noticed in you columns last week.
Mr. Helvie was born on the 8th day of November, 1805, in Scott county, Virginia, and died at his late residence in Tipton township, April 14, 1878.
Thus has another pioneer exchanged the cares, sorrows, and anxieties of this life for a blissful immortality, leaving a host of friends and relatives to deplore his loss.
Mr. Helvie emigrated to Cass county when moccosins made foot prints on the sand banks of Tipton township. He determidly set himself to work in the rude labor of subduing the dense forest, and in a short time, a portion of the browling wilderness was transformed into a beautiful and smiling homestead.
He was a quiet unassuming man, and adhered strictly to his own business. A charitable friend, and a benevolent neighbor, no one being turned away empty at his hands.
He was an earnest and consistent member of the United Brethren Church, and maintained his integrity until death.
The funeral services were held at the Seven Mile church; the Rev. Adam Surface delivering a janegyric dicourse. The mortal remains were interred in the Anoka cemetery, where they quietly await the resurrection morn.
Truly, in the midst of life we are in death.
