THOMAS KELLOGG was the son of FLORENCE HALL (?-1578), probably of Essex County, and NICHOLAS KELLOGG (1488-1558) of Essex County, England.

He lived in Debden, Essex, England. At the Manorial Court of Debden in 1571, he succeeded his mother in possession of the tenement and land called Mondes as appears in the Manorial Court record as follows:

"Whereas Florence Kellogge, widow, late wife of Nicholas Kellogge, deceased, held for term of her life, a customary tenement with a house thereon and 10 acres of customary land formerly called Webbs and now called Mondes with a pightel planted with osiers etc., reversion therof after her death to Thomas Kellogge and his heirs as appears by the rool of 5 Edward VI [A.D. 1551]. Now comes the said Thomas and prays to be admitted in reversion and he is so admitted."

In Court on 12 May 1568, THOMAS surrendered to WILLIAM KELLOGG two acres of Wymonds.

He was married twice:

Wife 1: Juliana Westley, married in 1550.
Note to researchers: This marriage is recorded in Essex county records as, "Thomas KELLOGG (aka Thomas RYCHE alias KELLOG) to Juliana WESTLYE in Thaxsted near Debden on 04 Oct 1550." Essex Records have a John KELLOGG of Little Sampford, 1540, and John RYCHE alias KELLOGG in 1541 and 1543. Possibly this second JOHN was the older brother of THOMAS? If true that does not explain why they would adopt an also-known-as surname.

Why THOMAS KELLOGG would have had an additional last name of RYCHE is unknown and this could possibly pertain to a cousin or other relative who also lived in Essex County. It could also have been the middle name for both THOMAS and his brother JOHN if confusion had arisen regarding them and cousins with the same given names.

However it appears this THOMAS KELLOGG was the only man so named and of approximate age living in Thaxsted near Debden. More research is needed but additional records may not exist according to several researchers who claim to have visited Essex County and found large gaps.

Wife 2: Unknown wife, married about 1559 in Essex Co. Listed as "Ellen" in some genealogies but parish records do not identify her.

His known child with Unknown Wife:

1) Phillip/Phillipe Kellogg b. 1560 d. 1583.
